This had randomly happened to me today. I had made no changes in my website or server in almost a month.
I tried to log in today and after entering my credentials, the entire content of wp-admin was "35" instead of all the html code to show a backend.
The code in full that I get back regardless of browser is "35". No actual <html> code, just "35"
Where do I even begin to debug?
Maybe reupload the wp-admin folder to your host.

I just upgraded my wordpress to 2.8 by re-uploading everything. Still the same problem.
I somehow can use the backend by going to specific URLs like /wp-admin/post.php and everything works. I just can't get to the dashboard

I'm suspecting a comment hack now. I can't get into the dashboard and the comments page. The common thing is of course, both show the latest comments. I have 8 new comments that I haven't seen yet. I'll try deleting them from database

It was indeed caused by a comment.
Now to think of it, it's quite worrisome that a a comment can disable the backend of wordpress
If you've made a backup of the comments table before editing it directly (hope you did), best thing to do is to email the last 8 rows of it together with a list of active plugins to security at wordpress.org.
