   When I first installed WP, it all worked fine, and then I went and messed it up...

   I'm not sure how I did it, but now when I click on "Posted in" link or "Comments" link I get a 404.

   Can anybody tell me what I did? More importantly, can anybody tell me how to fix it?

   Hey, here's something you don't often see for a WP category link:

   http://www.kodiak-web-design.com/wordpress/category/dog-blog/

   Are you missing your .htaccess? I'd try rewriting your custom permalinks, and see if that fixes anything.

   Thanks, Kafkaesqui. I'm afraid I'm a bit new to this. Does WP come with its own htacess or am I supposed to supply one? They're still a bit of a mystery to me, but if I knew I were just supposed to upload it, and where to, I could just about manage that, I think ;)

   Also, about the "custom permalinks", ummmm.... well let's start with where do I find them? Once I see them it may become clear what I'm supposed to do...

   PS Just found the permalink options page in admin, but all it says is that the .htaccess file isn't writable. I could make it writeable, but I can't find it. Where's is SUPPOSED to be? I went back to the original files I downloaded with WP and can't find one there, either.

   Sorry to be so dim...

   Try setting up .htaccess in your wordpress directory.

   Sigh. I can't belive how difficult something so simple can be.

   Okay, I created a (blank, for now) file called .htaccess.txt, ftp'd it up to my wordpress directory, and then renamed it to take of the .txt extention. And it disappeared. There's nothing in it, at the moment, so there's no work lost, but it's not going to be worth anything when there is if it does that every time.

   Any suggestions? Meanwhile, I am trying to read up on htaccess as a concept so I'll know what to do with it once it is working. Suggestions there will be much appreciated too.

   Okay, I figured out why I can't see my .htaccess file. Now I need to know what to put in it. I found the Apache tutorial which gives all the directives, etc. But I don't know which one(s) to use - anybody?
