hi there, i tried to upgrade to 2.8 using the embedded updater, but when i tried to do that an error came up “Fatal error: Call to undefined function set_screen_options() in /xxx/xxx/public_html/wp-admin/admin.php on line 45

well, afte that i cant access no more on the admin! that error always came up with a white page. i tried to comment temporary the set_screen_options on the file, but then it give other errors with other file in admin_header (esc_somethin function). i tried to delete my custom template and to disable all the plugins via FTP (renaming the directory) but its always the same..
    any advice?
    thx in advance

  • I had the same problem, and had to manually upgrade to resolve it. Look for a file in the root of your WP install that’s called .maintenance if you’re getting the “down for maintenance” message – delete the file and it will go away.

im pissed of, i had to remove all the esc_attr and the esc_html from many files in /admin, it seems something its in conflict wth the esc_* .
then i tried to upgrade and “cannot copy file: /public_html/wp-content/upgrade/core/wordpress/wp-comments-post.php”

    i resolved with manual install

I am getting the same error message and I DID to a manual install (and do not have a .maintenance file in my my folder). I have no idea what to do to fix it.
