• Hello WordPressers,
I am trying to figure out the best way to be able to let any visitor to my blog hide or show a specific category. I’ve searched for options, but I’d like to get some feedback from the community as to what would be the best solution.
Really, the only reason I’m looking for this solution is because I added a ‘chicks’ category to my blog and I don’t want that to make any female visitors shun my site. I figure if I can put a checkbox (or similar) next to the ‘chicks’ category (or any, for that matter) visitors can choose what they do or don’t want to see when visiting.
If anyone has a plugin they recommend, please do.

I’m by no means an expert at php, but I can get by. If someone has some code they’d like to share, that would be equally appreciated.

    Thanks for reading,

*apologies if my search skills suck and I missed an obvious post already covering this topic.

I hope the title of this isn’t why peeps aren’t checkin it out. Maybe I should have been more specific.

I would think that for those php masters out there, adding a check box next to categories would be fairly easy…but I guess that’s easy to say…hehehe.

So…6 months has gone by and I still haven’t figured out a way to let my visitors choose which categories they’d like showing up when they visit.

I’m still really interested in this if anyone has any suggestions.

    thanks

I don’t think this is a “Is this possible” question, i’m sure you’re aware as many others will be, that yes, it’s definitely possible, the question is, how easy is it and what is required? .. well that’s 2 questions actually but i’m sure you get the point.

There’s no simple “Do this” answer.

How do you want to remember a user’s choice, store information in the database, store a cookie, a session? … Should things be hidden on the page, or should queries be filtered based on this setting? … Have you consulted information on how to filter queries should you be given a means to toggle an option?

In any case, i think the biggest part of the quesdtion lies in how and where to store the data. You could consult the codex and google for a multitude of information (i can’t point you specifically, because you havn’t given specific requirements – other then what you “want it to do”).

If you want to ask a specific question (that won’t require me to write epic explanations), then shoot, i’m listening(reading?).. 🙂

Thanks for the reply t31os_, I just noticed your reply.

Ideally, I’d like a checkbox next to each category.
All the categories that are ‘checked’ would show up, and those that aren’t, are hidden.
I think the best way to store a users preference would be with a cookie.

I’m not sure if that was specific enough, but I do appreciate the response.

    Thanks,
    z
