• This is so wierd. When you look up my blog in Google, the indexed pages look like this:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=site:blog.lowratesearch.com&hl=en

Why do my site descriptions look like they do with links and urls for “prosperingtimes.com”, “blessedfavors.com”, “hackingeurope.com” and all the other weird URL’s??? I have no affiliation with any of these sites, nor have I blogged about them or included them to be included in my site description. Can this be some kind of hacker thing?

This is very confusing and frustrating. PLEASE someone help me get to the bottom of this so I can fix it. It’s totally ruining my SEO efforts and search enging indexing.

  • its NOT wierd. your site is hacked.

    <meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2.2.1" /> <!-- leave this for stats please -->

Maybe if you were NOT running a version of wordpress that wasnt 2 years old?

Wow, I had no idea it was that old… it came with my website through my hosting company. How do I upgrade and how do I fix the problem? I see the code in your reply, but what am I supposed to do with it?

what I pasted was taken right off your site. you are advertising your version (wordpress does this out of the box).

Its a handy way to show people that they need to upgrade.

How do you upgrade? Following the directions, I reckon.

Please note that upgrading a site that is already hacked isnt as straight-forward as upgrading a clean site.

Assume ALL of your passwords have been compromised — that includes all of your hosting passwords (mysql, cpanel, ftp etc..)

Assume your admin password for your blog has been compromised.

You will want to change all of these, and make any necessary changes to your wp-config.php

You want to check for rogue users inside your database. look inside your users table for a user named WordPress ..

you will NOT find this user listed in/on your wp-admin/users.php page — you MUST check your database.

You want to check for any rogue plugins being loaded. Those will show up in your options table.

You want to look for any malicious file uploads to your site.

etc.. etc.. so on and so on….

Ive covered all this rather extensively in other threads. Here’s just one:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/271485?replies=5

    theres also this:

    http://ocaoimh.ie/2008/06/08/did-your-wordpress-site-get-hacked/

And like I wrote in that other thread. thats not an exhaustive list, just a framework.

If you cant do it all — by all means dont hesitate to enlist the help of someone who can. Quite a few of us do work on the side.

Wow, thanks for the info. I’m going to look into everything, and if I can’t do it all, do you do work on the side? How can I get in touch with you?

I do .. and the best way to reach me is through my own site.

http://www.village-idiot.org — click on the link at the bottom of the page that says “contact” — that ought to take you to a contact form that goes right to me.

best of luck, in any case. 🙂
