I am having a problem with the config file: Everytime I go to install I get an error message saying that the wp-config file doesn't exist. Not only does it exist (checked a dozen times) but I have gone back to the wp-config-sample.php and used that to create a new wp-config.php with the correct values for the 5th time! renamed and reuploaded. I have also created a new data base, then gone back to the wp-config-sample, redone it, renamed it, reuploaded it and it still says I don't have a wp-config file.
Then I used the wordpress error page to create one and that still doesn't work. This is not the first Wordpress installation I have done so I went and checked another one I have which is working perfectly and can't see any difference in the files.
Please can someone help? the http://imodemagazine.com/blog is where it is at.
Following the "wizard" from the link you provided seems to be progressing well enough. Obviously without the details of your web host, database, username, etc. one cannot prove it out entirely.
Another idea to consider is the file permissions on the wp-config file, are they set correctly?
Lots of reading materials can be found here as well:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php
http://imodemagazine.com/blog/wp-config.php
either its not there, or its not readable -- hence the problem.
are you using godaddys windows hosting? if you are, and you dont need it -- switch to the linux plan.

Thanks to both of you. I thought the domain had been moved from GoDaddy but it hadn't, so I registered a totally new domain imodeblog.com and it all installed beautifully. Obviously it could not access the database I had set up with Bravenet.
Unfortunately then there was the release of 2.8 and I thought oh well brand new, no posts, upgrade first. Disaster ... can't install any plug ins but I have another thread happening on that so this is just to say thanks for trying to help.
