Got it … Just reset the .htaccess file !
I am having the same problem, when I try to create a link with the Visual Editor it instead downloads “link.htm”. I have tried all of the steps in the sticky post on how to fix this problem, but nothing has worked. The only thing I don’t know how to do is the .htaccess file you mention. Can you help me with this?
well….to reset your .htaccess file you can:
1) reset your permalinks to default
2) delete your .htaccess file in WP root
3) set your permalinks back to your custom structure
(deleting your .htaccess may be optional, just saving your permalinks back to default, then to your custom structure may work)
I don’t have a custom structure for links… They’ve been set to default the whole time.
I had to do a search in my FTP to find “.htaccess” – it is showing up inside the main directory, not within any WP directory. Nor can I find a folder called WP Root. (Excuse me if I’m being really, really dumb about this, but WP has always just “worked” for me before, I’ve never had to go inside and mess with stuff like this.) Is it safe to just delete the .htaccess file and say, “ok, WordPress, go!”?
Also, I’m not having a problem with links working, but CREATING links with the visual editor. I can a href all I want in the HTML editor and things turn out fine, but I’m having the same issue with the image editor where it chooses to download a useless file instead of bringing up the edit screen.
Help! 🙁
