    Hi!

I need so much help with WordPress that I finally quit resisting the forum thing and decided to jump in :-)

I'm trying to upload some PDF's to my site, and can't connect. I've tried FireFTP and FileZilla (3.2.4.1) Haven't done any FTP before.

    I've looked here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_FileZilla

    where it sez:
If you do not already have an FTP account on your server, use your cPanel or website administration tool to set one up -- it will have all the information needed.

I can't find anything on ftp on the dashboard - should I be looking somewhere else? I searched for 'cPanel' and came up empty.

I just noticed the default upload place is wp-content/uploads, and the web guy that set me up used a different location under themes - is this going to be a problem?

    Thanks for the help!

Have you tried uploading your pdfs through the Add Media options in Edit Post/Page?

    Thanks Esmi

I just tried your suggestion, under Media > Add New on the Dashboard.

It created an un-categorized post, but there seems to be no way to open the file. It's here: http://www.healthempower.info/?attachment_id=302

I'd like to learn how to use the ftp in any case . . .

If you want to use FTP, then download Filezilla and contact your hosting provider for the appropriate hostname, username and password. Once you have FTP access, you can then upload your files to the folder created for you by your web developer. In order to publish a link to one of these files, you'll need to use something like:

    http://www.healthempower.info/wp-content/themes/name_of_folder/name_of_file

Conversely, you could upload the file(s) whilst writing the post/page about them using the Add Media option in the Edit Post/Edit Page - in which case, WP can create add a direct link to the post (or page) for you in a similar manner to the way in which it inserts uploaded images into pages or posts.

    Thanks Esmi!

The media upload worked - I just didn't notice the link. Only thing was that it used the slug for the display name - I might have put the names in the wrong places.

Got the ftp to work, too, after calling my web host. Thanks for your help!

Say, are those boxing gloves on that avatar of yours? (I'll try to remember not to piss you off! :-)
