   I am testing out 2.8 beta 2 and although the settigns are set to max 1600x1024 for full size image, the uploaded pictures do not get automatically cropped :-(

   manually resizing after uploading works though.

   I just installed WP 2.8 beta 2 locally to investigate this. Unfortunately I'm not able to reproduce your problem. Auto-resize works just fine for me ... Could you post a screenshot of your media settings? Maybe there's something different between your and my configuration.

   ok, here are the different screenshots. I used alternatively the built in uploader and the other time the plugin: faster image insert: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/faster-image-insert/

   I uploaded different size pictures, and my result tells me that with the 1.8MB picture no problem, but both uploaders couldn't reyize my 4.8MB picture, which is unbelievable as my php.ini memorey limits are 64MB or more...

   Must check those limits again alter will post back here. Sorry for the inconvenience.

   weird: max upload and max post are 64MB and the max memory limit is 128MB and nothing in my apache/php error log :-(
