Support » Installing WordPress » Updating from 1.2.2 to 1.5 with problems

I’ve uploaded the WP 1.5 distro to a “/test/” directory where the WP 1.2.2 resides in the “/” root directory. The WP 1.2.2 version runs flawlessly even though I’ve changed lots of the file names to keep spammers out.

Problem is to get WP 1.5 to use the same $table_prefix as the WP 1.2.2 version. I can’t get it to work.

When I install WP 1.5 and create new $table_prefix there are no problems, when I install a second WP 1.2.2 and make it use the same $table_prefix as the first WP 1.2.2 there are no problems.

How can I upgrade from WP 1.2.2 to WP 1.5 to use the same $table_prefix without getting a blank page?

  • If you want to upgrade a 1.2.2 to 1.5, why not just follow the upgrade instructions ?

If you try to run two WP installs from the same database, with the same table_prefix, you will have problems. Lots of them – and that is because of the way WP is designed and why it is not written that you can do that.

    podz,

    Thanks for your reply.

Well, was thinking that I would like to see the 1.5 in action with a custom design of my own to test before I release it.
Obviously, according to your reply, that isn’t an option with a 1.2.2 running on the same table_prefix, so I can’t really see the result before the live upgrade – what a shame.

Funny thing is, I can run two identical versions from the same table_prefix, like two 1.2.2, done that been there – ideal for testing designs prior to release.

Perhaps make a copy of your tables with a new prefix and upgrade that?
