Can you stop certain posts from displaying on the home page?

I run http://www.loveclapham.com and I want to create a directory. It seems to make sense for this to use ‘posts’ rather than ‘pages’ for each shop to allow for comments, tagging and categories. However, I was wondering if there is a simple way of stopping these posts from appearing on the homepage? I don’t want my blog flooded with directory pages…
