   I'm looking for two things to do with the number of comments displayed:

   1) Display the total number of comments from a post category anywhere else on the site

   2) Display the TOTAL number of comments from any specified posts anywhere on the site i.e. add up the comments from specified posts and then display them. I'd obviously create a text explanation beside the total denoting where the total was from.

   I don't want a plugin because that makes me dependent on a plugin author. Am I wishing on the wind?
