[resolved] Link to page with "private" setting (4 posts)

I have 4 images in my footer on my blog and I want the images to link to pages on my blog. But, I don't want the pages to be listed on the page bar on the header in the theme. If I set them to "private" they don't show up on the page listing bar on the theme header, but I can't get a html link to work.

Am I trying to do something that won't work? Is it possible to link images to the pages are "private".

Also, how do I find (or create) the page id number? My pages are identified by the title of the page and not by a page ID number.

    Thanks

You can link to these pages, but only visitors who are logged into your site as admins (or another user level with permissions to view these pages) will actually be able to see them. Everyone else will just get a 404 error.

If you want everyone to be able to see a Page, but just don't want the page to show up in the sidebar list, I would suggest reading through this page. You'll need to buff up your skills with editing your theme, but that's good to know anyway if you're getting into WP.

If you want to find ID of a page/post, in your admin area:

    1. Go to Pages > Edit
    2. Find the Page to which you want to get the ID.
    3. Hover over the Title of the page you want to edit and look down in your browser's status bar (Firefox & IE, anyway). There will be a number down there. That's your page's ID.

Alternatively, you can hover over the Edit link, if your theme utilizes that function, on any Page or Post on your live site, and do the same thing (look for the ID number in the status bar.)

Great answer. I'm going to use the exclude parameter. Thanks.

Good deal. You should mark the topic as resolved if you're sorted. :)
