Thank you for looking at my post. I am new to the php and css. I am making my own site and have been personalizing it as much as I can. However, I must have accidentally changed something. And of course I have no idea where I could have done this at.

While personalizing my theme, I have occasionally erased or changed things in different php’s. I assume thats what I did that messed it up.

I’m just wondering if someone knows specifically where I need to look if I am missing some code when dealing with RSS feeds.

I have WordPress 2.7 and I’m using the Simply-Indy theme.

my site is worldenglishclub.com and if you click on the RSS links at top, you will see a white page and this and nothing else:

    XML Parsing Error: syntax error
    Location: http://www.worldenglishclub.com/feed
    Line Number 1, Column 31:<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=””?>
    ——————————^

The only thing I KNOW how to do and that I did was: change to new theme in wordpress; delete simply-indy theme on web host; re-load simply-indy theme on web host.

Now do I just need to wait for the everything to comeback online so-to-speak or did I change something else and need to re-write something.

Thank you very much in advance for helping if you can.

    ryan

IS there anyone who can just head me into the direction that I need to go. I am a fast learner but I’m kinda at a cross-roads without a map. I have found some possible answers but I’m looking for someone who is experienced to give me a nudge. Thanks everyone

I dont know if anyone didnt know the answer to my question or maybe I didnt explain it well. But someone answered on another forum. I wanted to share here in case others have this problem. I was missing the encoding value in the declaration. It seems simple enough and thats what I figured but I didn’t know what to put there. Here’s the site that helped me on my way. I needed to put in the “utf-8”. I also realize I was looking for RSS info when I should have been looking for XML stuff. So thank you to anybody who viewed my post.

Just if anyone is having this problem in the future, the prior post didn’t solve it. But heres what did and it was quite a simple solution.

In the Settings section under Reading, at the bottom of that page it asks for your “Encoding for Pages and Feeds”. I don’t know how I missed that but I did. Anyway, that needed to have “UTF-8” in it. Somehow it was blank.

everytime I find a thread like this it blows me away. I had the same exact problem as you with my RSS/Atom http://heathmcconnell.com/blog/feed/atom/ I am getting a feed validation error like this:
    _____________________
    Sorry
    This feed does not validate.
line 1, column 0: XML parsing error: <unknown>:1:0: no element found [help]
    Source: http://www.heathmcconnell.com/feed/atom/
    ______________________
What blows me away is how much time one can spend trying to find an answer online and, especially here in the WP forums, only finding the questions and never the answers. Never an answer, just questions.

I don’t even know where to begin to look for the page that needs “Line 1, column 0” edited. I assume it doesn’t exist as I have asked this question everywhere. No replies.

I did check into what you wrote, however my settings were “UTF-8”
