Fatal error Allowed memory size of x exhausted

Unfortunately the search function simply shows a bunch of people randomly getting the same error with no practical assistance forthcoming.

and is PHP fatal errors/out of memory the same as allowed memory/allocation errors? I’m getting the same error and yes, I used the search function back to 2.5.1 – no luck.
