I have the read the forums and google search but still haven't found out how to do the following:
I want to search one category and all the subcategories. I tried adding <input type="hidden" name="cat" value="10" />
but it only searched child categories on my localhost and not when the site was live. I want to manually customize the searchform to search category 10 and all its subcategories / child categories.
I would be so grateful for any help.

I am having this issue also. Did one of the 2.X updates break the search by category solution that is posted all over the web?
I get a "search results not found" page. At the top, I see this string:
http://eternal-revolution.com/?s=art&cat=145
Despite the fact that a post with that term exists in that category. In fact, no matter what I search for in what category, I get "No results found."
If I alter the query to:
http://eternal-revolution.com/?s=art&category=145
I get ALL results from ALL categories. (ie Wordpress ignores the category parameter)
Did something get depreciated?

Now it looks like certain plugins or themes (such as Thesis, which I am using) breaks this functionality.
