Search Specific Categories and sub-categories

    I have the read the forums and google search but still haven’t found out how to do the following:

    I want to search one category and all the subcategories. I tried adding <input type=”hidden” name=”cat” value=”10″ />
    but it only searched child categories on my localhost and not when the site was live. I want to manually customize the searchform to search category 10 and all its subcategories / child categories.

    I would be so grateful for any help.
