The blog I had previously set-up cannot be accessed due to error in establishing a db connection. I’ve checked the wp-config.php file to confirm the correct DB host, DB user, username and password. It’s been suggested for me to start over, so should I delete all files and begin again? Or is there another solution to resolve this issue?

    Any assistance would be helpful.

    Don’t delete yet

Since the blog was working before with these settings, and the forum at /mike_23b is broken too, the database server is almost certianly down. Contact your hosting provider for details. Advise them that you are paying for uptime, not downtime, and there are many other hosting companies that are very hungry for new business and that you’d like some money back.

Hi brainycat, thanks for your suggestion but this is a course-based server hosting our sites for the duration of the course. I’ve asked the instructor and her suggestion was to begin again and that it would only take 15 minutes to fix. Since I’m still on a learning curve, the instructor would like us to do our best to troubleshoot on our own.

But at this point I will soon have to add a forum that will directly link to my blog and cannot complete this task until my blog is up and running. The course was switching between blogging w/WP, installing xxamp, and installing phpbb3 to setup a forum. You can view my forum at:

The server is not down, otherwise my forum would also be having connection issues. So, any suggestions on where to go from here?

The database is definitely working for your forum. Look at the configuration file for phpbb (I can’t remember what it’s called offhand, but it should be obvious) and make sure it matches wp-config.php.

Make sure you’re using table prefixes so each app has uniquely named tables.

The weird thing is that it was working… Are you sure you didn’t overwrite the original config by accident? I’ve done that a few times.

Ok, I will check that out. No, we’ve been working on installing a localhost and setting up forums for the past two weeks, so I hadn’t accessed any of these files. So, I’m not sure what could have happened.

I am signing off now, but will check back later tomorrow after work to see if I can find a resolve to this issue. I appreciate you quick response to this issue. lk
