   I recently moved off wordpress.com to self-hosting. Everything went as well as expected (that is, it was a pain in the ass), but I got everything working except for one thing — old threaded comments.

   All the old comments lost their threading. It looks like the the comment_parent id’s don’t match the actually comments, so it appears there was an import issue from the the WXR file.

   It really sucks to lose all that theading, plus it acts weird now when people try and reply to old comments. New comments on new posts work perfectly.

   Anyone else experience this? Any ideas how to fix it?

   I'm having this same problem. I really hope the WordPress team would look into this. Perhaps we should raise this in the Ideas section too.

   Though my guess is that a database export-import (instead of the WXR/XML file upload) would fix this problem.
