   The readme.html included in the 2.6.3 release package relates to 2.6.1, not 2.6.3. At least, it CLAIMS to relate to 2.6.1 and is dated 15aug2008, which would be about right.

   Same in both .zip and .tar.gz downloads.

   Yep, it's a known "whoops".

   You've got 2.6.3, the readme.html is not updated to reflect the current version.

   I've just downloaded the package again and the readme still relates to 2.6.1.

   There's no way I'm going to install this version without first reading what I'm likely to be getting myself into.

   it's still valid - just hasn't been updated - everything in it still applies

   not sure to whom i should be addressing this remark, but perhaps someone could take the time to put this right? why be so english?! someone definitely SHOULD put this right!

   That file gets fixed in the coming 2.7 release. Otherwise, consider this. That file is just an html information file and will not affect the way WordPress works.

   If you want you can use a file editor and change that file if you feel strongly about it.

   there's really no need for sarcasm. i could easily change the file, but ... what would i put in it?

   readme files are there to be read and to contain information thought to be relevant to people installing a package.

   Apologies if that came across as sarcastic, though not too sure what more can be said.

   That information has been reported as a bug, and fixed in the next release.

   If it bothers you, delete the file. As has been reiterated several times, the file itself has zero impact on how WordPress functions.

   the presence of the file doesn't bother me. and now that samboll has told me that the information in the readme applies to 2.6.3 as well as 2.6.1, i have had no problem performing the upgrade.

   readme files rarely do have an impact on how packages function, but they often do to how packages are installed. if it doesn't matter what's in it, why have one?
