  • I was just wondering if anyone else was having problems with the codex today? It’s either been going really slow or more recently, thrown a 403 error message. Is the codex being updated? Thanks in advance!

I realize this post might not be in the “proper” category so please feel free to move it. Thanks!

It came back up. Hopefully, it will stay up as I was in the middle of a project!

On a side note, is there an offline version of the codex? I think it would be a good idea to have in case the online version ever goes down.

They must be messing around with Codex (maybe upgrading it or something).

Don’t know of an offline version

It’s back down again. I realize having an offline version would require more work seeing how the codex changes as WordPress does. I think it would be a good idea though to have for developers.

While I don’t necessarily disagree… keep in mind that the codex is a wiki that anyone can edit. Keeping an offline version up-to-date would be quite a challenge!

I understand this which is why I think it would be a difficult task. Maybe having like a template tag reference list would be useful. Just the template tag and a easy example of how to use the tag.

It’s back down again. I get that offline versioning would be a nightmare, but what about a mirror, at least for the docs-section? Something that gets updated maybe once a week, and is noted as a simple static output for when the main site’s not available. Or a redirect that takes me there when I would otherwise hit the repeated 403-no-access error thing?

If it is updated often, there should definately at least be a themed 403 message error. It does get a little annoying when seeing the standard 403 error message.

Maybe I should make a template tag cheat sheet.

I’ve found a couple of good cheat sheets that you can view > here.

Let’s bear in mind that the codex doesn’t go down all that often 🙂

Since I usually know what page I want, I just go hit in google and then go to their cached copy at times like this.

    For instance:
    http://209.85.173.132/search?q=cache:hMPIqfNnT60J:codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password+wordpress+codex+password&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

I figured that it doesn’t go down to often but that doesn’t make it any less annoying when it actually does.

Thanks for the tip about page caching, that will probably come in handy!

Codex was down for cleaning of spam infestation.
