   I've looked around the WordPress Dashboard and I can't seem to find any way to limit comments to a certain number of characters. If I could somehow limit the number of characters maybe I would not get so much computer bot generated gibberish spam comments that run to thousands and thousands of characters.

   Right now I am getting about 30 a day that are marked as spam and each one seems to be composed of randomly generated URL hyperlinks plus gibberish sentences running around an average of 600 to a thousand words each. It's just a pain to scroll through them all and delete the spam every day.

   Unless some has come up with a plugin to limit comment text, there is no way to limit comments to a certain number of characters. If the amount of comment spam is becoming a problem, try installing/activating the Akismet plugin.

   Thanks for the comment, esmi. Which Akismet plugin are you referring to? The Akismet I have works great in catching spam, and not allowing spam to be published, but it holds it in a spam queue until I delete the spam.

   All comments on my blog must be approved or have been previously approved before the comment will be published.

   It is still a huge irritation to have to remove delete the spam even with a "delete all" button because I still have to scroll through the spam to make sure it really is spam.

   You have a good idea though, I will search out the plugins to see if someone has made one.

   Akismet will automatically delete spam after 15 days. So as long as you occasionally check the new ones, you can just leave the plugin to do its own thing. Over the years, it's filtered almost 92,000 spams on my oldest blog with perhaps 6 false positives in total. I doubt that I've manually deleted even 1% of the total but I currently have less than 1,400 in the spam list right now.

   Greg's Comment Length Limiter let's you limit comment length.
