help with default theme

How can i change the default theme and make it my own?

like, change the background color.. from grey to a pink maybe?

and how can I make the banner across the top my own? they have this weird thing inside the page that changes colors and all but say I wanted that gone… and just wanted to be able to upload and center my own banner?
