   I have one blog working fine with permalinking (obvious, right, because all post links are human-friendly?). Started up another blog, same settings (month, etc.), .htaccess, different db, permissions solid, but the permalinks are returning 404s. Same copy (well, similar) setup on local machine works fine.

   Forcing apache in vars.php did not work.

   Could it still be the server, or are there other things to check? Thanks!

   I also checked to see if .htaccess was being written (revert to default, nothing in file, change to month/day, yup file is updated with Apache directives)-- yup it is.

   So...? Thoughts, tests?

   Hmm. Looks like I had a weird hack? Somehow:

   I had exactly the same bit of code changed! What's up with that? (Not sure if this is related yet to the permalinking, but a bit troublesome... maybe scary?) Permissions were 775-- what's more secure?
