If you are using an earlier version of WP...earlier than 2.7...then it may be best to just do a manual upgrade to 2.7. From then on, you won't need a plugin to upgrade since this feature is built into WP 2.7.

See the following video for step-by-step directions on manually upgrading. Note...if you don't have Cpanel, just use FTP for the file transfer parts.

    Hi Figaro.

    I am using 2.7
I will check again, but I am having issues almost every single time I try to install any new plugin...either via the automatic plugin installation within WP or via FTP...something is definitely amiss.

    Thanks.

Here is an example of what is going on.
I am trying to install the plugin PageMash, which is compatible with WP 2.7.1. When I try the installation from my WP admin area, I receive the following error, which I do not understand:

    About to extract '/tmp/php7jjOkl'.
    Extracting files from /tmp/php7jjOkl...
So far, the type is set to 'plugin'.
    Need to load PclZip.
    gzopen() found, will use PclZip.
    Starting extraction to folder '/homepages/45/d280599868/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/'.
    Creating directory '/homepages/45/d280599868/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/pagemash'
    Extracting pagemash/README.txt
    Extracting pagemash/collapse.png

When I check my FTP, I notice that the folder has been created on the plugins folder, but only the readme file was created. Nothing appears on the list of installed plugins on the WP admin area (either as inactive or active).

Can someone help me with this? This is happening with a lot of plugins I am trying to install, and it is driving me nuts!

    Thanks,

    Andre

    Any answers yet?
I can't even get wp2.7 to upload the zip plugin to install the plugin.
