I have started uploading images through wordpress media uploader and just noticed that the post ID numbers are growing larger .
I have disabled Post revisions and autosave feature.Then why is the post number increasing. Is it because of image attachments taking all post ID numbers???
How can i disable that (image attachments taking post ids) because there are large gaps in the post numbering sequence.

Yes.
WordPress assigns a subsequent post ID to the uploaded image.
I am facing the same problem, since I want to separate these media from "posts".
Still searching for a solution. Putting media into the same table of posts is not a good idea for me:(

Yes - can someone please help? I only have about 80 posts, and about 30 pictures in my rotating header set. But the current post id is 991. Where are all those extras coming from, and is there any way to re-set all the page numbers?
