The update to 2.7.1 doesn’t do anything.
what doesn’t happen?
error?
blank page?
describe a bit more fully
Your server setup may be preventing the download. Just download manually and do your upgrade as normal.
It would also be a good idea to contact your host and ask them if their server settings are blocking upgrades.
host is 1and1.com
they haven’t blocked any downloads to my pc so far
it is one reason I’m as up to date as I am
manual download works but I need more detailed instructions
The instructions say
1) Delete your old WP files, saving ones you’ve modified.
2) Upload the new files.
3) Point your browser to /wp-admin/upgrade.php.
4) You wanted more, perhaps? That’s it! I’ll downoad manually
So … which files do I delete?
(That’s why I wanted an automated update. I can do the details; I just need the details to do.)
james,
So … which files do I delete?

Thank you for the assistance. Don’t get me wrong. I know I can do this. I’m not sure I want to. Someday the next update will come out. If the gods are willing it will automatically update and I won’t need to do read all the instructions, interpret them, figure out how to do them, and then do them. I’ll click the button and it will work and I will smile and move to my next task for the day.
It isn’t that I can’t do this. Rather it is that I’m not sure it is worth it. Or, to put it differently, what do I give up by just waiting till this all gets fixed. Doing it now requires that I read, interpret and understand and take the time. I’m unsure of the benefit.
