I believe that I have the same problem: I've uploaded multiple themes, which show up in themes folder alongside default and classic folders, but which do not appear on themes page of dashboard. I've checked to assure that folders weren't improperly nested after unzipping. Thank you.

    Samboll's questions still apply...

    More info is essential really...

Quick fix for some broken themes is to rename the theme folder name if it has any hyphens...

    EXAMPLE:

    Some-Theme

    Rename to for example:

    SomeTheme

Not saying this will work for everyone, but it's fixed one or two for me..

I've uploaded 3 different themes folders, all of which appear in themes directory alongside Classic and Default themes folders, but when I navigate to "Manage Themes" page of Dashboard, only Classic and Default themes appear.

When I log in to my site, my changed theme appears. However, no one else can see that change and when I start up my computer (not logged in to my blog), my old theme comes back. I was trying to change it to Fresh Fruits by Anonymous.

    Any thoughts? Suggestions?

I am having the same problems. Only Classic & Default themes show up in dashboard after uploading many different themes. Broken Theme error missing stylesheet but I don't know what theme is missing the stylesheet (not the two mentioned above) I have cleared browsers, cookies, caches, temporary files. I installed widgets to clear pieces left behind.

Help please - I am losing it.

    *Sigh*......

    1. Do any of these themes have hyphens in the name?
    2. Do you see the extra folders via FTP or CPanel file manager correctly?
    3. Do any of these theme folders have extra folders, ie, what is the folder structure?
    4. Can you post a link to your site?
    5. Is the theme compatible with the version of Wordpress you have installed?
    6. What messages are displayed if any .. exact message is ideal here (though remove path structure, example: /a/path/to/your/server/public_html/)

I've not had a single theme not work to-date since installing Wordpress.

The exception here is that some have had hyphens in the names, renaming to something without hyphens fixed those. Others have sometimes been an extra folder level deep, moving the theme content out of the additional folder fixed the problem.

Name any theme you can't install and provide a link to download it, i'll be happy to test if they work for me.

    Appearance - Theme Manage
    2 themes - Classic & Default

    (then error message)
Broken Theme - no theme name, missing stylesheet

How do I clear this error? I believe this is what preventing any themes to upload.

    1) Plugins - i can upload - have deleted all thinking maybe one of them was preventing the themes from uploading.

    2) Hostgator - cleared my cpanel
    3) ftp - i cleared everything
    4) empty browser caches, temp file, history
    5) Had Windows Live One Care tech support clean corrupted files & clean registry errors
    6) wp 2.7.1 installed - reloaded it
    7) Themes I have tried are compatible w/2.7.1 - I had some installed previously so I know they work but not properly.

Someone suggested I clean my theme file & start over so I did. That is when I got the broken theme message

Sigh back to you - thanks for trying to help

    To t3los:

First, thank you for your help!

    1. Do any of these themes have hyphens in the name? --NO
    2. Do you see the extra folders via FTP or CPanel file manager correctly? -- YES, I SEE UPLOADED FOLDERS ALONGSIDE DEFAULT AND CLASSIC THEME FOLDERS WHEN I VIEW THEMES FOLDER VIA FTP
    3. Do any of these theme folders have extra folders, ie, what is the folder structure? -- NO, I CHECKED FOR NESTING PROBLEMS. THE FOLDERS WITHIN THE UPLOADED THEMES FOLDER ARE VERY SIMILAR TO FOLDERS IN DEFAULT AND CLASSIC FOLDERS
    4. Can you post a link to your site? THE SITE IS BRAND NEW, WITH ONLY ONE TEST POST. IT'S CALLED TRUTHDK.COM, BUT AGAIN, THE SITE WILL BE "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" FOR QUITE A WHILE.
    5. Is the theme compatible with the version of Wordpress you have installed? YES, ACCORDING TO DESCRIPTION
    6. What messages are displayed if any .. exact message is ideal here (though remove path structure, example: /a/path/to/your/server/public_html/) -- NONE, THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE UPLOADED THEMES DO NOT SHOW UP WHEN I TRY TO MANAGE THE SITE THROUGH THE DASHBOARD
THE THEMES I TRIED WERE: PIXELED, GREEN APPLES, BIG CITY AND ONE OTHER (I FORGET EXACT NAME)

    AGAIN, THANK YOU

    Theme Name: Pixeled
    Theme URL: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/pixeled
    Install: Local
    Extra folders: None
    Shows on Theme page: Yes
    Neeeded Rename: No
Can activate and use? : Yes
    -----------------------------
    Theme Name: Green apples
    Theme URL: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/green-apples
    Install: Local
    Extra folders: None
Shows on Theme page: Yes (before and after rename)
Neeeded Rename: Yes (hyphen in name) / Renamed to greenapples
Can activate and use? : Yes (after rename)
    -----------------------------
    Theme Name: Bit City
    Theme URL: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/big-city
    Install: Local
    Extra folders: None
Shows on Theme page: Yes (before and after rename)
Neeeded Rename: Yes (hyphen in name) / Renamed to bitcity
Can activate and use? : Yes (after rename)
    -----------------------------

The only issue with any of those themes were hyphens in the theme name, once renamed all was fine. Regardless the themes were also shown on the themes page in admin.

Guys what if you try to access one of the stylesheets for the uploaded themes that don't show...

    http://yoursiteaddress.com/wp-content/themes/SOMETHEMEYOUHAVE/style.css

So if a theme uploaded called "big-bob" was uploaded but not showing then that becomes...

    http://yoursiteaddress.com/wp-content/themes/big-bob/style.css

If that file does not exist the themes are not being uploaded, or the permissions on the file prevent it being access, in which case the message on the page should indicate so.
