• This error shows up at the top of my blog when the page is first loaded:

Warning: ob_start(): output handler ‘ob_gzhandler’ cannot be used after ‘URL-Rewriter’ in /home/******/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 558

If the page is refreshed, the problem goes away. This was happening before the upgrade to 1.5 and I hoped that upgrading would have fixed it, but it did not.

    Any ideas?

    Still no ideas, eh?

Even with the line number, I can’t pin down the cause of the error. I’m not even sure when the ob_gzhandler is invoked.

Now I’m just pestering, but nothing I have tried can even change this, much less fix it.

    Please help.

Have you installed any plugins that are using the output handler? Try disabling all your plugins. Do you still get the error?

I figured out what it was. Your comment led me right to it. In the DB, there were some plugins listed as activated even though they are no longer installed nor used.

So, I edited that info to reflect the plugins that are actually there and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks Ming! I owe you one.

I spoke too soon. The error still exists. AARRGGHH!!

I was sure you had found the problem.

So if you disable every plugin you still get the error?

Yes, all plugins are disabled. The field in the DB where “activeplugins” are kept say “a:0{}” or something similar, so it seems nothing is activated.

Taranis: Check to see if you have ticked the “wordpress should compress articles (gzip) if browser asks for them” option in your “Reading Options” tab. I had the same problem and when i turned the option off it went away. I think the reason the error disappeared for a while when you de-activated the plug-in is because the page was re-loaded – I’m not too sure why that happens but oh well.

    Hope that helps.

Hi guys, I found an answer for this question. Fixing it is very very easy.
    Take a look…
