changing what appears in the unusable area

    I mean the real background, not the background to text, but the stuff to the sides etc.

    How do you change that, either change the colour or add an image?

    Apply it to body { } in your stylesheet.

    That puts it behind the text. I mean the bits outside the template.

    Cheers sorted it.
    background:url(images/imagename.gif) repeat-y;
    did the trick
