How to determine version of WordPress (2 posts)

    I am writing about a friend's blog, not mine. They have asked me to make updates. I think it is an earlier version of WordPress, but do not know how to determine what version it is. How do I do so?

    some friendly advice -- you are going to have a rough couple of days if you dont acquaint yourself with the search of the forum, and the codex documentation.

    Heres the *simple* answer to you question (2nd result), located via the search of the forum:

    http://wordpress.org/search/tell+what+version?forums=1

    This can be elaborated on so ... rather than expect that you actually read any of those other threads..

    Later versions of wordpress display the version prominently in the admin area. You would need to be blind to miss it.

    Older versions of wordpress display the version in the footer, on all admin pages.

    You can also view the source code of the blog, and often times, but not always, see the version there.

    Lastly, the file, wp-includes/version.php contains the version.
