• Hello,

I am trying to test a transaction using PayPal sandbox and eshop. I have created the “buyer” and “seller” test accounts in sandbox but when I get to the re-direct to PayPal page during the transaction, it does not re-direct and I have to use the “proceed to PayPal” button. PayPal then responds with this error:

“We cannot process this transaction because there is a problem with the PayPal email address supplied by the seller. Please contact the seller to resolve the problem. If this payment is for an eBay listing, you can contact the seller via the “Ask Seller a Question” link on the listing page. When you have the correct email address, payment can be made at http://www.paypal.com.”

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this? Thank you for your help!

  • Have you ensured that the email address you entered in eShop matches the email address on your Paypal account?

Yes. I was also signed in to the sandbox account as well as wordpress. Thank you for your quick reply!

If you’re signed into sandbox then it should work – I assume you are using the seller email address as supplied by the sandbox?

Yes. I created a seller email address and a buyer email address. I then entered the buyer address during the test checkout, and was simultaneously signed in to sandbox with the seller account.

I noticed that sandbox alters the email address that you create by cutting off part of the address and adding a series of numbers (i.e. bwo20jm@*****.com is changed to bwo20j_#######@*****.com). Sandbox only lets me sign in with the former. Which address should I enter during a test checkout?

the sellers address entered eShop is the same as the sandbox seller account?

In the checkout you can use any email address, and it is this one that eShop will send a confirmation email to. eShop will also send one to the sellers email address (but neither go via the sandbox, so you’ll need to ensure you are set up to receive these emails)

When purchasing, use the buyer email address to login to the account after you have been through the checkout on eShop.

@fishthefly I have been having the same problems that you have and isolated the culprit. When I set up a seller account in the sandbox it gave me an email address in the style of (note…I’ve edited the actual info):

    johnso_1238366725_
    per@gmail.com

This is how it appeared in the sandbox listing. In order to get the email address right, I copied and pasted it into the eshop settings. Since the first part of the address and the second part of the address are on separate lines, it actually copied over like this:

    tollma_1238366725_ per@gmail.com

Notice the space between “_” and “p”. This led to the email address being entered incorrectly in the form that submits to PayPal. I imagine you might be having the same problem.

    ParanoidSardine and all,

I definitely was having a problem with the email addresses. The testing process seems a bit nebulous at first, but I have finally worked through it thanks to the help from this post. Here is a walk-through of what worked for me, for those who may run in to the same problem. When you are ready to test a transaction:

    1. Create an account with PayPal Sandbox here.
    2. Once you are signed in to the sandbox, create a preconfigured seller account.
    3. Once the seller account is created, click on “enter sandbox test site” and log in…again.
    3. In your wp-admin, navigate to settings/eshop/merchant gateways, and scroll down to the paypal portion and enter the same email address used for the sandbox account.
    3. At your website, work your way through a transaction. Be sure to remain signed in at sandbox during the entire transaction. Once completed, you should receive a confirmation for the test transaction.

Thank you all for your help.

I can do the purchasing fine, but, I get no confirmations from PP, so how can I test that a user can download the item?

For that matter, how does a user get access to download the item?

If paypal is quick enough (rare but it can happen) then on returning to your site the customer will see a link to the downloads page.

But they receive instructions via the email that eShop sends out anyway.
