Hi,
I am in the process of creating up a WP site on a Windows Server (IIS6)(avenuetennis.asteraweb.co.uk) but because of the unfriendly URLs I need to move it to a new domain and server running Linux (www.avenuetennis.com).
The current site has data from a MySQL dBase and a number of active plugins that I want to keep. The only reason for the move is the pretty permalinks.
When I did a straight copy of all files the permalink structure kept 'index.php' in the url. I know that the new Linux server will allow mod_rewrite.
Can anyone tell me how to do this? I guess it could be quite simple... (or should that read hope!)
Thanks
When you get it over to the new server go to your permalinks settings and remove the index.php from the custom permalink.

Thanks for that, I'll definitely look out for it. But how do I move the files in the first place? Is it a simple matter of copying exactly what I have on the windows server (and domain) over to the new Linux server (and new domain)?

Perfect. I had the copying of files, but not the changing of the URL in the site options.
I was also sure to change the custom URL sting to exclude index.php.
It now works like a charm!
Many thanks
