  • the “www” or “no www” question has nothing to with WordPres,s or .htacess, and has everything to do with how your host has the server set up to use domain names. Usually, hosts set it up so that the site will display, www or not. If your site doesn’t do that (and it looks like it doesn’t) then you’ll have to contact your host and have them fix the server settings.

With WordPress you either use www or you don’t use www, either way it redirects you to the one you chose to use. If you choose to not use www and someone goes to http://www.humorbeast.com, it will redirect to humorbeast.com. The same is true the other way around. If you want to use www, log into your WP admin and go to your Settings > General, and change the WordPress URL and the Blog URL to use www in it.

Yes, but I think that’s the issue Bernard – his server *isn’t* redirecting. With or without WordPress, his server *should* be redirecting with or without the “www”, and it’s not. That says it’s a server setting.

You can modify it in your htaccess (www or no www), but as you’re getting a 404 on the www version, it’s a DNS setting that someone forgot, most likely.
