I am trying to create a homepage for a small comunity.
I heard that wordpress is very good, - but what I find is tools to create blogs.
My intension is not to create a blog – but an “ordinary” homepage.
Can anyone help me to find the place where I start building a homepage.

You create a Page the way you want it
admin -Pages - add new
then you go to
admin - settings - reading
select that page as "Static front page"

Hey Lis,
Yes, WP is a blogging tool for simple one-page sites as Samboll suggests to complicated ones...
If you just want a simple page and blogging is not for you, then you need to look into simple HTML editors. There are many out there that will let you design a simple page (look for WYSIWYG editors which show you the finished product/graphics instead of the code). Your word processor on your computer could probably save your document as HTML...
Having said that, if you're not comfortable with FTP, editing HTML, paying for a host for a simple site etc then may be you should look into finding a site that does all of that for you e.g. wordpress.com ning.com facebook tribe myspace etc.
