The next and prev button closes the image if you have viewed all images before/after the currently displayed image and you attempt go back/forward using the prev or next links.
I think... closing the image if you're at the last image and click next would be expected; closing the image if you're at the first image and click prev would be expected; in every other case, the next and prev button should move forward or backward one image, even if you have already viewed all images.

I have the same problem, will try to look through the flightbox.js but if anyone has a solution to the problem it would be great!

I've seen this, too, in the lightbox. More often though, the problem I run into with these buttons is that if you click around within a photoset, randomly picking Prev, Next, Next, Prev, Prev, Next, Prev, etc. pretty soon you start jumping all over the place within the photoset. Any given "Next, Prev" or "Prev, Next" combo does not return you to the same picture as would be expected.
