Permalinks and IIS 6 (5 posts)

I have clean install of WordPress 2.7.1 (base install with no mods) installed on a Windows 2003 Server under IIS 6.

Everything is running fine BUT I cannot get Permalinks to work for Pages. Any time I try to pull up the link, I get a 404 error.

This is true using any of the Common Settings options under Permalinks as well as any attempted Custom settings.

The only way I can get Pages to work is to use the Default setting under Permalinks.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Yes. Don't use IIS. Apache is better.

    Or try this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Permalinks_without_mod_rewrite

Okay.....Soooooo....why doesn't WordPress.org just say that Wordpress requires Apache? It doesn't, and clearly says all one needs is PHP 4.3+ and MySQL 4.0+ (both of which I have).

So, could someone provide a serious answer? Is this a general problem with hosting Wordpress on IIS or am I missing something?
