    Hi: we have a spanish site that ran just fine with spanish characters using WordPress 2.5.1 (English). I upgraded it tonight to 2.7.1 and cannot seem to get the spanish characters to display properly.

    Check http://laylita.com/recetas/.
    * The wp-config.php file has ‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’ and ‘WPLANG’, ‘es_ES’
    * I created /languages and loaded the spanish .mo file in it

    The admin part of wordpress does display spanish characters properly… it’s ironic, especially as 2.5.1 was running in WordPress English and worked just fine with spanish characters. The external site still does not, despite setting language and loading language files. There’s got to be a gotcha. Help much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Nick

    Update: I seem to have resolved the issue by re-loading the old backed up database and re-upgrading once all settings were set to spanish.
