OK, i get 30 spams a day on my comments and I was wondering how they are doing it. If i put a captcha in the comments, will that stop these spammers or are they putting the comments on my site a different way? It looks as though they are spamming my site while not being on it. So, any way to stop it with captcha? Now these spams are going to spam folder but I just have to keep deleting them. Any way around it?

Do you have Akismet installed/activated? You might also want to check out Bad Behaviour. It blocks many malicious bots from even accessing your site which is a good thing since most spam is auto-generated from bots/scripts.

I have recently set up a blog on wordpress and have already started receiving comment spam. I’m not a developer so am not highly technical. How do I find/install Akismet – is it on the WP admin dashboard?

Akismet is already in the plugins section, but you need to sign up at wordpress.COM to get an “api-key” in order to activate the plugin. I advice (like LenK) to install Bad Behavior. I use it myself in combination with JS Spamblock.

Yup, as I’ve said before, since using Bad Behaviour in conjuction with Akismet my spam counts have dropped from hundreds a day to less than a handful a month.

As LenK says the use of Akismet and Bad Behaviour eliminates spam.

I woke up this morning with 250+ spam comments on a single post. As I was deleting them more were being added. After installing and enabling the two plugins, the spam is no more 🙂
