• Hi: I recently started using %post_id% for permalinks on my new site and noticed that the post_id increments are going very fast. For example, if I start a new post, the post id is 1345. Once I save it, add the post URL to another page and save the page, add a redirection through the redirection plugin, then start the next post, post_id is now 1349.

Is it normal that every change in WordPress (even if not a new post) results in a post_id increment? Am concerned about getting into huge numbers at some point.

I really hate this, also. Every time a draft is saved or you revise a post, a new post id is added (pages, too). This sure makes the database tables hard to work with when they get so cluttered.
I disabled wordpress saving drafts automatically – that helped a lot, but still…..

Seems like wordpress should use 2 variables: one for post-id, one for revision-id. Good to know I’m not the only one seeing this… thanks.
