I was wondering how best to go about making the Recent Post title area a html link to my blog front page.
Do I hack the code or is there another plugin that will allow me to change the heading to a link?

The Recent Posts Plugin will do that if you put the link in the Settings->Recent Posts->Output->Text and codes before the list, field.
You need to install the Post-Plugin-Plugin also:
