pdfs ending up gallery

Hi

Why doe my uploaded pdf files end up in my media gallery? Isn’t that for images?

And when you add a media file (such as a pdf) to a post, should it automatically create a link or is that done manually? When I do it, all I get is some unformatted text of the file’s title, no link or html is added.
