New user registration - how to remove access to Dashboard? (4 posts)

Newbie here and a little confused about blog "membership".

Is membership basically a function to have a means to contact your readership?

"WordPress for Dummies" recommends that Users must be registered to leave comments (in order to help prevent spam).

However, when a user registers, they also get access to the Dashboard (with limited functionality) BUT I'd rather they didn't have that, as I see no need for it.

Is there a way to remove the Dashboard button from the admin page a user gets access to when they register?

Is there a plugin that gives a better way to register? Maybe I'm just not clear why the Dashboard is important to the general public?

Thanks for an explanation of what this is all about!

"WordPress for Dummies" recommends that Users must be registered to leave comments (in order to help prevent spam).

A good many blog owners believe requiring registration in fact discourages comments.

If you do proceed with registration look at something like:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/peters-login-redirect/

    generic:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/redirect
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/restrict
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/restriction

    Thanks Michael, much appreciated.

Now you have me wondering if I want (ie. NEED) to have registration at all.

But I am going to check out the resources you've listed too, just in case I find there's a a good reason to have registration.
