[resolved] changed permalink led to duplicate content - how to kill the old permalink? (3 posts)

    Hallo there,

I just changed the permalink of one of my articles (for SEO reasons). Now I get in trouble because search engines still find the old permalink working and punish me for having duplicate content.

Where does WP store the old permalinks? I need to delete it.

btw: no SEO plugins installed except "All In One SEO"

The problem solves itself after a few days when google finally recognizes the changed xml sitemap. The old permalink consequently falls out of the index and the page returns to it's original ranking because there no longer is any duplicate content.

The old permalink still works but is not indexed. No need to delete it.

I have the same problem. My question is what will happen if someone (on some other site) have a link on my post but the link is the old permalink? Will google try to index that page even though it is not in xml sitemap (and continue to report duplicates) or the old permalink will fall out of the index consequently?
