• I was just editing a post on my site last night when my whole site went crazy. I’m getting an Internal Server Error:

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

I looked around on the forums a bit and found people asking what the error log says. So I checked out my hosts error log and it says this:

[Mon Feb 09 06:45:31 2009] [error] [client (My IP Address)] Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use ‘LimitInternalRecursion’ to increase the limit if necessary. Use ‘LogLevel debug’ to get a backtrace., referer: http://caribbean-entrepreneur.com/blog/2009/02/06/les-bekes-derniers-maitres-de-la-martinique-documentaire-canal/

I wasn’t trying to link to that post or anything…? Has my website been hacked? I also can’t find any reference to that website in my database?

    Please help me!

There’s also another warning message in my error log:

[Mon Feb 09 06:45:36 2009] [warn] RewriteCond: NoCase option for non-regex pattern ‘-f’ is not supported and will be ignored.

Please!? Someone? My whole website is down!

Have you contacted your web host?

    I suppose I haven’t, will do.

500 errors can be caused by server problems at your web host or by a bad .htaccess (if you have one). Try renaming your .htaccess (to disable it) and see if the problem goes away.

Thanks, it was a problem with my .htaccess file. It somehow got the extra characters “ecc” at the bottom of it. No idea how that happened.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to edit/delete my .htaccess file, the file permissions also somehow had been changed. I had to contact my host to have it reset.

Very strange stuff, I’m hoping it doesn’t happen again.
