    Hello!

I have an old wordpress blog which I would like to migrate/import into a new blog. Is there an easy way to do this? I've downloaded the old blog to my desktop but am not sure which files I need to import into the new blog and even where I need to go to do this. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

    Hi Ryan,

    The codex has information here

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

And there is another tutorial here

Thanks for your reply kwbridge. Unfortunately, the old blog is on my desktop and no longer on a server so those links don't help me much unfortunately. Looking at all the files and folders I downloaded from my old blog folder, I have no idea where to start or what to copy over. Help! :)

I sure hope you have a database back up or at least an xml file, because that is where all the actual info, i.e., posts, comments, pages, etc. are stored.
If not, you better hurry and get google's cached version of your site and download it if you want to preserve anything.

Don't fall over laughing but... I lost my domain name as it wasn't renewed in time. Someone else then bought it. SUCK!

Getting into my blog isn't as simple as it used to be. I still own the server that hosted my blog so I can get onto the server and find my stuff but, when I try to upgrade:

    http://64.13.222.116/blog/wp-admin/

I get taken to the domain that it was on but no longer own. This is a problem and I'm not sure how to get around it... hence why I thought I might be able to download the wp folder from my server and hope to then import it somehow. Hopefully I'm explaining my problem in a way you can understand and thus give me some advice on how to solve it. Thanks!!!

if you own the server then you had mysql installed with phpmyadmin to administer it?
You can still get on server?
Then try one of these to change your blog and site url to the ip you are using now.

    Thanks for your help samboll!!!

I think I am getting somewhere (slowly). I've managed to get the to the upgrade wordpress screen but I'm not getting the following:

WordPress database error: [Unknown column 'user_nickname' in 'field list']
    SELECT ID, user_nickname, user_nicename FROM wp_users

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!
