• Hello, I am having a problem with my blog which I have recently upgraded to 1.5. The .htaccess file does not seem to be working at all. I have set the structure to /archives/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ on “edit permalink structure” page, but it does not seem to work.

At the moment, there is an empty .htaccess file, chmodded to 666, which I put there thinking it may need the file to exist before it can edit it.

I found this comment to a similar problem in the forum: “You did update your htaccess with the new rewrite rules, correct?”. But there was no reply, and no explanation. Where does one find “the new rewrite rules”, if indeed that is the problem?

  • Looks like it might be similar to this topic.

Looks like nobody else had the same issue, so no solution was forthcoming. As I was moving hosts, I took the opportunity to restructure things and redirect the root of the site to what is now the blog address.[1]

[1] This involved some fun with editing the db, which I did be exporting, then using TextPad for some global replacing 🙂

I’m not sure. My wordpress files are in the same directory as the site files, the root of my hosting. It just doesn’t offer up any clues.

IIRC, WP 1.2 gave you the rewrite rules on the edit permalink page, so you could copy and paste them if it didn’t work manually.

Is this not still an option?
