I use w.bloggar to upload my pictures or you might consider using http://www.flickr.com.
Being a refugee from Movable Type, I’m still using that software’s upload file script (attached to a button on my toolbar and loading into the sidebar in FireFox) for WordPress post photos! I haven’t found anything for WP that does the job as well.
The newest Version of exhibit works with wp1.5!

Why not use WordPress’s file upload feature? It returns the HTML to display the image once it’s uploaded.
Lazy Image Layout works with 1.5 and it’s awesome. Link: LiL
My main beef on the WP upload is that it doesn’t insert the width/height, and the resulting code is not in a form field, so it’s slower to copy/paste (minor deal, unless one’s posting a lot of files). And I haven’t been able to hack it to include the css class statement I use in img refs as I have with the MT upload script.
I’m using gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com) and the block-random.php block they provide and some other code plus the wp-gallery plugin.
Works ok.

I use Florian Jung’s Image Browser plugin. You still use WordPress’s Upload admin tool to get the pictures to your web space. Once there you can manipulate the images a lot with Image Browser. Check it out at:
