The Codex needs plugins! If you are a WordPress plugin developer, please add your plugin information to the Plugins page. If you are not a developer, and you’re just looking for some WordPress plugins, the official plugin repository is at wp-plugins.org, but at present wp-plugins.net is more helpful.

Would it be easier to convert

    http://wiki.wordpress.org/Plugin

over to Codex? Shouldn’t be that hard (uh, I have some scripting experience…). Would keep links to plugin/wiki pages, etc.

    Let me know.

No, I’ve all ready thought that over. The problem is, some plugins don’t exist anymore, some aren’t v1.5 compatible, some plugins have their own pages on the wiki which need to be created in the Codex, some link to external sites, and most of the tags differ between the wiki and Codex. It’s easier to do them one-by-one.

What kind of fascist runs a system with this error message: “You have not specified a valid user name. A valid name must start with a Capital letter.”

I thought that was quite strange alright.

Most spam bots attempt to register with a lower-case user name.

Why not require the use of a number then? Heh. Why punish the village for the sins of one? I know it’s an honest attempt to de-spam, but how far will it go?

Please, people, you’re getting upset over having to push the shift key in combination with one letter, the same action which you typically use to start a sentence. This is ridiculous! We, the documentation team and documentations contributers, would appreciate that you extend the extra effort to enter your name with a capital letter. This is only a small request, but I suppose that you could be the one in charge of deleting and reverting the 50+ entries that get spam-slammed without the “You have not specified a valid user name. A valid name must start with a Capital letter” requirement. So, please, extend the extra effort and push the shift key. We’re not asking for much. But, if you’d like, I’m sure we could implement a new login system which requires your name, address, phone number, social security number, and credit card number. Honestly, just push the shift key, once. Jennapfister, you pressed the shift key four times in your last post. So, it’s obviously not too much of a hassle for you. We, the documentation team and documentations contributers, would appreciate that you extend the extra effort to enter your name with a capital letter.

Why do you keep saying “We the documentation team and documentation contributors”? We’re all part of the WordPress community. I don’t mind entering the uppercase letter, I just hadn’t seen that before. Nothing more to it than that. 🙂

I altered that message as Codex was previously just saying the obtuse “You have not specified a valid user name.” and when people came here or to #irc, they were told to use a capital letter.

I have no idea if that is a deliberate setting integral to Codex or for mediawiki generally, but it seemed sensible to add the capital letter bit. I’ll admit it’s not the friendliest way I could have put it though .. suggestions welcome 🙂

My apologies if I offended anyone. I only meant “We the documentation team and documentation contributors” as those who contribute regularly to the Codex, as we are the ones who would have to deal with repairing the 50+ spammed entries.

Is there any way we can get that implemented for our blogs? That you have to have a capital letter as first letter?? Just out of curiosty
