• Just yesterday I had my first encounter with the “white screen of death” while trying to upload images within the “Write Post” screen…

    I’m hosted with Godaddy, and running four installations of WordPress on different folders within the same domain name. Up until yesterday, I only had three versions of 2.6.5 installed, however I installed WordPress 2.7 into a new directory in the morning. About 20 minutes after installing 2.7, all of my 2.6.5 installations give me the “white screen of death” when trying to upload an image.

    The images even show “crunching” and everything seems to be working, but when it’s done crunching, it has a blank white “image” where the image should be. If I hit “insert into post” it inserts a similar blank white image. I’ve checked the servers folder for the image that was supposedly uploaded, but nothing is there.

    The weird part is, the version of 2.7 works fine, and I’m able to upload images perfectly. This makes me wonder if having different versions of WordPress installed on the same domain is causing this issue. I’ve searched for solutions to this issue on these forums, but none of them have worked for me.

    I plan on updating one of the 2.6.5 installations today to see if that fixes it for that specific domain. If not, then I’m at a complete loss.

    In the meantime, I’m completely stuck and have no efficient way of uploading images to my posts in the 2.6.5 installations.

    Does anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • Check your error log to see what causes the white screen

    I don’t have much experience with error logs…what exactly would I be looking for in the logs?

    Hmm, sorry cant help you with it. It seems that the error `[Mon Jan 12 08:25:24 2009] [error] [client removed] (2)No such file or directory: File does not exist: /var/chroot/home/content/b/r/a/bradbenites/html/404.php

    I upgraded one of the blogs to 2.7, but I’m still getting the white screen of death when I try to upload an image.

    The only work around I’ve found is to upload the image via FTP, and use HTML to insert the image…however this is not a very good long term solution.

    I know I’m not the only one with this issue…can anybody help!?!?

    THANKS!

    Just got this error when using firebug…refers to scripts.js (line 6)

    scripts.js (line 6)

    $ is not a function
    displaymessage()
    $('myForm').addEvent('submit', function(e) {

    Any ideas now? I’m not sure what this means.

    Are you saying that your clean install of 2.7 works, but any blogs installed on the same server that are 2.6.5 or 2.6.5 upgraded to 2.7 are not working?

    Incompatible plugins, corrupt images, masked domains, and mod_security settings can all interfere with image uploads. Have you reviewed all of the suggestions at the sticky post “Image/Media Uploader problems?” You may want to check out the “Solved My “Insert Image into Post” Blank Popup Problem” thread as well.
