hope this helps... was getting "Sorry, login failed. Error message from Twitter: Rate limit exceeded. Clients may not make more than 100 requests per hour."

running WP 2.8.1 and TT 1.6.

Was able to fix it by deactivating, upgrading, and then reactivating Akismet.

I have the same problem. I have proved it with another twitter and works but with the one of my web it doesn't work. This is very strange. I don't know what more to do.

Here is what I just tried and it worked. When I have my twitter name appear on twitter @ChrissyMorin it has the caps in it.. so after doing everything everyone else tried.. I simply entered it as chrissymorin and it worked perfectly.. ug.. sometimes stuff is sooo simple.

I am not exactly what worked for me but I

    1. deleted Twitter Tools,
    2. changed my twitter password
    3. installed the dev version of Twitter Tools. That newer version (2.0dev) is available on Alex's site.
    4. Once installed and worked all twitter postings that did not post properly were okay then.

I'm not sure where I'm going wrong.

    I've installed Twitter Tools 2.0, and I'm running WP 2.7 -

I'm getting the error that it cannot authenticate my twitter account login - Sorry, login failed. Error message from Twitter:

    I've uninstalled and reinstalled
I've changed my twitter password on twitter
I've also written a blog post, utilizing the twitter feature that let's me "notify twitter" and it never showed up as a tweet.

Nothing I'm doing is seemingly successful.

    Any help would be awesome!

I simply deactived the plugin, then activated it. I entered my username and password and SAVED the info on the Twitter Tools options page, it now works. Hope this helps

This may sound ridiculous, but I noticed there were two fields and I was entering my info into the first one (user/pass). I tried entering the username into the first field and the password into the second, and it worked just fine.

I logged into my account with a different browser that I don't usually use, so doesn't have the passwords and things saved. I changed the password, and then logged out of my account with that browser. Logged back in with my usual browser, and all was fixed, as it automatically updated the password that I'd just changed.

Like ChrissyMorin above I put my username in in lowercase rather than mixed and it fixed my problem logging in.

I'm also having a problem with the twitter authentication.

I'm using: Wordpress 2.7.1 and Twitter Tools: 2.0

The error message I receive when I click test my login is simply: "Sorry, login failed. Error message from Twitter:" with no actual error message returned from twitter.

I've tried using a short, 6 character, all lower-case password with no luck. My twitter username is all lower case and 13 characters. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I do have an accented character in my latest blog post, if that's any help, although I see that that was covered. It's a new blog - I've only posted twice, first one went through fine, this second one didn't get "tweeted" and when I check the settings I get

"Sorry, login failed. Error message from Twitter: This method requires authentication."

If you get the authentication twitter login error, you can also go to plugins, then deactivate, then activate, then type in new password for twitter tools.
